Nineteen Eighty-Four, a novel written by George Orwell in 1949, is a story about a future country where the population have no hope. People are controlled by a fascist government, they are constantly being watched and must conform to the government’s doctrine. They aren't allowed to speak to each other on the street, they aren't allowed to bye anything that isn't necessary. This novel is also a critique of various political systems, such as Italian Fascist, Hitler’s Nazi, and particularly Russian Stalinist. In the story, the government put Big Brother pictures everywhere with the saying, "Big Brother is Watching You,” and also the famous propaganda, “War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is Strength.” This is done by the Ministries of Truth, a department that deals with news, entertainment, education, and the fine arts. They did this sort of thing to raise the reputation of the leaders, and it is also used to warn the citizens that they should not do anything in opposition to the government. Russia, Italy and Germany also had the same kind of social control like 1984. Stalin had icons, statues, busts, and images of him all over Russia, public buildings, schoolrooms, and homes.
