With approval from his parents and help from ACLU cooperating attorney Jeff Haley, Matt Fraser filed a lawsuit against the school authorities claiming a violation of his First Amendment right to free speech. The school district asked the United States Supreme Court to consider the case and it agreed to do so. The Supreme Court ruled in Favor of Bethel School District saying that the school district's policy did not violate the First Amendment. I agree with the court’s decision because there is no reason to use the type of language he had in his speech. Schools are not meant to be a place to use vulgar words and especially not in front of the entire school. Yes, the First amendment guarantees freedom of speech; however, there is a limit to what you can say and more importantly what not to say in school.
