When I first came to New York, I heard all these crazy stories of a man named Gatsby. He was throwing these wild parties, he had relatives in Germany where he received a lot of his riches, and so on and so on. If only I had known how great he really was.
I only knew the man, the myth, the reality for a short period of time. And in this period of time, he changed my life like no one ever has and probably ever will. Gatsby loved one thing in his life and one thing only… Daisy. To him, Daisy was his first breath in the morning and his last in the evening. when she accidentally hit a woman. Well, that woman’s husband heard a horrible rumor, which placed Gatsby in the drivers seat. The man then finds Gatsby and shoots him. I wish, like so many others, though they can not come today, that the truth be told earlier, so we could still be partying at Gatsby’s house as we have so many times before.
The parties which filled the whole community with joy and anticipation, would be hosted by the only man that could possibly pull off such an extravagant party week in and week out. The point that Gatsby did not even know half the people at the party is beside the point, it was just the essence of such effort that went into holding these parties. Gatsby was that kind of man though, the impossible for others was the easy for him. There was no way anyone would outdo Gatsby, he just would not hear of it. It was one of those subconscious things people do.
