On October 17, 1998, the UST Geology students met in the UST parking lot and around 7:00 a.m. in the morning, we left to start our day long field trip to Central Texas. Right after we left the parking lot, we saw Kirk, one of our classmates, and picked him up. He woke up late and almost missed the trip, fortunately he got there right before we left the campus. We entered the freeway and took highway 71 to Austin, Texas.

we arrived at our second destination, a location just east of Marble Falls. When we arrived at 11:06 a.m., it wasn’t raining anymore, but it was still drizzling. The wind was starting to get cold, and I realized that I didn’t bring a jacket. I started getting worried because I had to work the next day -- I thought that the group was going to get stuck at Austin until the weather gets better. The second location we visited consisted of mostly limestone. The age of these limestones were Pennsylvanian aged and that is because we found some crinoid fossils and faborites coral which existed around that time. We stayed at this location for about 45 minutes. After this stop, we decided that it was time for lunch. Originally we planned to eat at a picnic area, but since the weather was really bad, we decided to look for a restaurant. The rocks in this particular location were Cambrian aged rocks because of the trilobite fossils that we saw. Some sites in this location were green because of galucanite, and the location was full of calcite rich sandstone. The top rocks were red because of the hematite.
