The Search

After surviving the horrors of the Holocaust Viktor E. Frankl writes his own experiences that took place in such depressing times. In his book Man's Search For Meaning published in 1946. The meaning behind Frankl's book was to share his horrific experiences from his time in the concentration camps, but not only did he share his own personal experiences he also shared the experiences of other prisoners that stories were never told. His purpose was to show the true reality of the camps and what everyday life had consisted for an average prisoner.

Another way Frankl showed the reality of the everyday life for a prisoner at Auschwitz was when he was explaining how some prisoners would lose themselves, and how common it was for a drowning man to give up, " The only exceptions to this this were those who had lost the will to live and wanted to enjoy their last days. Thus, when we saw a comrade smoking his own cigarettes, we knew he had given up faith in his strength to carry on, and, once lost, the will to live seldom returned (Frankl 8)."
Ultimately, Frankl truly revealed the truth about the concentration camps that took place during World War II while also uncovering universal life lessons about life. Man's Search for Meaning is very important to know the suffering that took place and to never have history repeat.
