Life of A Black Family


The play A Raisin in the Sun was written by Lorraine Hansberry in 1959. Lorraine Hansberry is a black female who was raised in the 50's and 60's and experienced racism and segregation.
The play is about dreams and a black family living in a one-bedroom apartment on Chicago's south side. The family had moved there when the mama Lena and the late Walter Sr. had first got married. They only planned on living there a short time. The family was very poor but they were expecting an insurance check that the late Walter had left for them. The check was to come on a Saturday. We bleed the same blood. I do not think we should judge people by the color of their skin. They work as hard as anyone else. I know people say the color people are lazy bad but I know white people that are the same lazy and bad. I really do not understand this world we live in because you should never judge a book by its cover just as if you should never judge a person by their color.
This play is also about racism. Racism is a major issue that has affected the United States for years. Some people still today believe that African Americans are inferior to Caucasians. The United States has improved but still has a long way to go about racism. We still have areas in the United States that are segregated. Even in the schools we have problems with racism.
