Sex education in Oakland in schools is very common nowadays. Teaching sex education in middle schools is a very controversial topic among parents. Many believe that it is wrong to be teaching young children about sex because they think that it will lead them to have sex. But in reality, it is crucial to educate them about sex because they need to be aware of the different types of contraception that is available in order to have safe sex. It is important to teach them because they will learn new information that they might not be told at home. Many students are asking for more sex education because they want to learn how to communicate with their partner and also they want to know the side effects of being sexually active. They think that learning about abstinence is not the solution to why the percentage of teenage pregnancies is so high.
It is important for it to be taught in schools for students themselves to learn of the consequences of being sexually active. For example, a female has to get an annual pap smear after becoming sexually active and males have to get a yearly blood pressure test and an HIV test.
