African religious views have been stereotyped by many westernized nations around the world. Some view African religions as part of mystic superstitions and inaccurate understandings. In reality, the African religions are based more upon culture and beliefs passed down by ancestors. We cannot specify one type of culture in all of Africa because there are many that exist in different tribes. African traditions are clear based upon tribe origins because one tribe does not share the same beliefs and cultures of another. heavens. In contrast the Nuer of Sudan is a higher God believed to be a guardian to their people. Nuer is the punisher, rewarder, and moral law of their society. The people from Sudan and their God are a lot closer spiritually than that of the Yoruba people. The Yoruba people connect more with their lesser God because they regard their higher God to be way too distant. Aside from the African beliefs of a higher God, there are also other significant spiritual Gods that are worshiped daily.
Animism is encountered in the African faiths along with other Gods. The higher Gods are equally respected although lesser spirits play a major role in daily activities. In African religions they believe that the universe is populated with spirits, humans and animals but the sky, earth and waters are looked upon as harmful and beneficial forces.
