The airports security is the last line of defense and since the Al Qaeda group was able to penetrate it, everything else became a lot simpler. On December 25th, 2009 another man was able to by pass airport security with explosives strapped onto his underwear. Because the standard screening does not get that personal, the staff members were unable to catch the man in time. Luckily his plan back fired, and he was arrested immediately. On January 2010, a man was seen walking the wrong way into where everyone was coming out. Flights were delayed for about six hours to find this man. He was not captured until about two or three days later. Although they made up for it by re screening every single passenger in the airport, this was a UN acceptable mistake by the Newark security staff. These scanners have become controversial because they are able to see through peoples clothes for hidden items. People feel that their privacy/rights are being violated when someone else is staring at them nude. Even though they do invade people’s privacy, they are a very useful tool in airport security. Metal detectors can not catch everything a person is carrying, but a trained human eye can see when something is out of the ordinary. They can compare the person’s skin color to other things that stand out with different colors on the computer screen.
