Does alcohol have any effect on human aggression? Americans are very concerned today over violent crime. This is probably because the US violent crime rate has been increasing. A violent crime occurs every sixteen seconds in the U.S. (Adler 1994). According to Pernanen (1991), studies already show that over 50% of the assailants were intoxicated at the time the violent crime was committed. To see if alcohol has any relation to aggression, experiments were performed on a group of people.

Binge drinking was the highest in the college age group between 17 and 23 years of age. Within this college age group, (17-23) students younger than the legal drinking age of 21 years had just as high a binge-drinking rate as the 21-23 year olds. There is no relationship between year in school and binging. Rates of binging are almost identical among students-freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors (Wechsler 1994).
