I support the fact that was a brilliant Secretary of Treasury, but a failure as a politician. He was brilliant as a Treasurer basically because he was a great strategist that was very skilled and had a great intellect in economics. Hamilton's plan for centralizing and reinvigorating the national economy was integrally related to his philosophy. He believed that an energetic American government should actively encourage manufacturing, assume responsibility for the country's debts, and standardize and control the currency system through a national bank. Yet, in the implementation of his political ideas, Hamilton encountered many attacks against his character and beliefs.
I believe that Hamilton was a failure as a politician because he had many political ideas that were irrational and caused controversy amongst groups of people. He was against democracy and he characterized the public as selfish, unreasonable, untrustworthy, and prone to corruption. Hamilton wanted a strong centralized government to be able to keep order and to be able to reduce the power of the states.
