Alexander the Great

Alexander the Great was the son of Philip II of Macedon. After securing the throne and getting all of Greece under his control, Alexander turned east to conquer more of the civilized world. He moved swiftly using his military force and strategies to win battle after battle, conquering different areas and rapidly expanding the Greek empire. In a paper by N. G. L. Hammond and Ian Worthington they talk about Alexander’s accomplishments and whether or not he deserves the name Alexander the Great. When Philip II died he left Alexander everything, the Greek realm, the military, Philip’s military tactics, and many more things. When Alexander wanted to expand his realm he took all the soldiers from Greece and had them fight, leaving no one to stay behind to protect Greece from potential invaders. People believed that Alexander was a great military leader and strategist and even though this was common knowledge the truth is, he had his father to thank for most of his military strategies. There were other groups of people who contributed to the military that without them Alexander wouldn’t have an army. Consider the craftsmen who builds the swords, shields, armor, helmets. The farmers who makes food for the army. The people who transported these things to the army. Alexander would be nothing without these people.
