Abstract

Atopic Dermatitis is a serious and severe disease if not properly educated in the treatments and/or preventions. AD may lead to other diseases, much worse than itself such as the smallpox or cowpox. Case studies, such as the one reviewed in this paper, are very beneficial to society’s knowledge when it comes to this topic, as well as the personnel included in the prognosis and diagnosis of the disease. Anderson reviews the symptoms of a five-year-old boy that has a possible case of atopic dermatitis. She reviews the boy’s conditions to verify that he has the symptoms required for the diagnosis of AD. In her article, she questions AD, “is it just skin deep, or is there more depth to it than meets the eye?” Anderson (2005). Anderson makes sure that nurse practitioners involved in managing AD have a thorough understanding of its presentation and also when to make appropriates referrals. In her findings, Anderson provides an overview of AD. She also provides information on other atopic diseases including but not limited to asthma, and allergic rhinitis (AR).
