Assessing autonomy, according to Levinson, is critical because children are deserving of a proper education, and good education can only be developed if and when assessed correctly (Levinson, 1999, 2001). Levinson acknowledges the need for assessing autonomy, however also remarks that this task requires a great infrastructure that is likely "impossible to realize" (Levinson, 2001) The challenge of educators and opticians then, is to consistently attempt to realize the infrastructure necessary to maintain an autonomous environment within the educational system.
