The BCS system was created in 1998 because of the split National Championship. The BCS was made to ensure that a true champion of college football was crowned by using a system of ranking tams 1-25 and having the 1 and 2 teams play for the champion title. Recently there has been much controversy around the BCS, people claim that this system is faulty and does not actually crown a true champion. Some even go as far as to say that the people in charge of the BCS have lost interest in the actual football and decide the bowls based on what will get the most money. According to Bleacherreport.com, President Barrack Obama even talked about how the BCS is a faulty system and that a playoff system is needed to crown the real champion every year. This really improved Obamas popularity with some people. He’s not the only person though. Countless coaches and former coaches even stepped up to say they disagree and they would like to see a playoff system put in affect someday rather than the current system. One of the coaches is the legendary Joe Paterno of Penn State University. According to an article by Fox Sports, Joe strongly showed his disagreement with the BCS. Even went as far as calling it “rubbish.” Joe believed that with the BCS, people have forgotten more about the football and college football has turned into more of a business.
