Being A Virologist


It was very difficult coming up with a health career that I would
be interested in. The truth is, I am not interested in any health career.
What I really want to be is become a screenwriter, and that is actually,
how I figured out, if any, what health career I would choose.

My health career is to become a virologist. I came up with this
career while I was watching the movie Outbreak. Basically, a virologist
works with viruses. They try to find cures or vaccinations for viral
threats. Virologists try to create antibodies to fight of viruses.

C.D.C. ( Center of Disease Control ) is a large virus bank right
here in the U.S.A. A virologist would work in a place like this. There

are two primary ways of making
these antibodies. One, they can take them from patient zero. Patient
zero would be where the virus originated from.

Two, they could inject into an animal like a horse. If the animal,
horse creates antibodies to fight off the virus, we take some of its blood.
And from the plasma we extract the antibodies. Here is a method used
long ago. Lets say that you were going to get vaccinated from the common
cold. In the old days, they would take a dead virus and put into your
blood stream, by cutting, or injecting you. You would take this while you
were very young. Your body would recognize the presence of a foreign
creature in your body, and it would attack it. Your white blood cells
would attack and create natural antibodies against it.

“Back in the day” working with viruses would obviously be difficult.
But now people work with the aid of super computers. Working with
