ABRAHAM AND HIS FAMILY

It was a blustery, snowy day in Chicago on March 9, 1998. My mom was 37 weeks pregnant with me and was frantically getting ready for her job as a supervisory physical therapist in a rehab department of a Chicago hospital. Usually, she drove herself into work each day, but driving on this particular day in the blizzard could have proved to be dangerous. One of her co-workers who lived nearby called her and insisted that she meet him at the local train station, and they would ride the train together into work in the city. She arrived at the train station, but was unable to tell if the train was there yet, as she couldn't see ...

worried and concerned over her baby that she had just fallen onto. When my mom and her friend arrived at the train station, which was about two miles from the hospital, they began to walk through the blinding snow in the direction of the hospital. My mom was having difficulty walking because of her extra weight and also due to not being able to see through her wet, foggy glasses. Her friend suggested she hold on to the back of his winter coat and he would guide her safely the whole way to the hospital. As my mom's work morning unraveled, she began to overheat and not feel well. One of the rehab department's secretaries insisted that she call her obstetrician regarding her fall earlier that morning. My mom contacted her doctor who advised her to immediately go up to Labor and Delivery on the fifth floor for further testing.
