Billy to gain his popularity. By 1905 he was very popular and well-known in America. He would preach to thousands of people nightly. He preached about Christ, morality, hard work, the wickedness of alcohol, and patriotism. During World War I, Billy preached mostly on patriotism. He is quoted in saying, "In these days all are patriot or traitors, to your country and to Jesus Christ." He would wave an American flag from the pulpit while patriotic songs were sung.
