to cast Indians in every role. Martinez even double and triple cast to accommodate for the many roles. This is a common occurrence in theater productions. I was not very impressed with the performances as different characters. It was difficult to distinguish one role from another. The Indians were dressed so similarly that it was difficult to tell them apart. When one Indian changed characters to a different Indian I often could not tell. Another problem was that names were not spoken out loud directly to the characters. This created mass confusion in my mind. I understood the stories, but I often had trouble deciding who the characters were. The directorial concept of this production was interesting. Martinez played on the horrible things that happened to the Indians. She used many different tools to get her ideas across to the audience. She used a little girl as one of the Indians.
