Shirley A. Hill's book entitled "Black Intimacies: A Gender Perspective on Families and Relationships" is published in the AltaMira Press's Gender Lens Series. It has three editors who are Judith A. Howard, Barbara Risman, and Joey Sprague. They talk about the concept of a gender lens series. Hill tries to contribute three goals throughout her work. First, she aims to incorporates the gender lens to the discrimination experiences that shaped the lived of African Americans (11). Second, she talks about the development of the intersectionality theory which states that systematic social inequality occurs because of the interactions of gender, race, and class (12).
