In The "Masque of the Red Death", Edgar Allen Poe conveys his
theme through the setting. The seven rooms of Prince Prospero's castle
symbolize the life of a person. The seven rooms of the castle are colored
coded with the last one being black which stands for death. Prince
Prosepero wanted to isolate himself from the people to avoid the plague.
Prince Prospero tried isolating himself in Italy, but nobody can escape
death. In the room, the clock was a specific setting. The clock on the
wall on the last night struck every hour, which symbolized how much longer
the people had to live. In the "Masque of the Red Death", Poe uses the
setting to convey his theme. In the end nobody can escape death.
