INTRODUCTION

Anytime a group wants to gain government funding or other types of funding for a problem that group encounters massive amounts of red tape and bureaucratic loopholes. It seems to be the American way to place so many obstacles in front of a cause that it is no longer feasible to fight for funding. While this creates a bottleneck affect at the "door" of lawmakers there are some causes that get through each year and receive the financial support of the government. There has been an unprecedented increase in the funding level for breast cancer research in recent history and the political model that Kingdon discussed in his research can easily be applied to this occurrence.
For years there has been a steady increase in the diagnosis of breast cancer. According to experts there were more than 32 diagnosed breast cancer victims out of every 100,000 women under the age of 50. The studies also show there were more than 342 cases in women over the age of 50. As the years march forward the number of breast cancer patients have increased dramatically, which as brought a spotlight to the cause (Casamayou pg 16).
