Catch-22 Book Review
Catch-22 is a beautiful book that induces both hilarious laughter and tears, for characters too close to reality to be believed fictitious and a society too starkly real to be ignored. The book spurs such strong emotions in a reader that it is proven to be art rather than one of the many collections of mindless babble inundating bookstores today. Catch-22 is well written and well organized, even if a bit confusing chronologically. The authors use of grammar and detail was adequate. It was very humorous and unflinchingly exposed raw human emotions. Heller was written several books and a few plays. His literary works include Something Happened, God Knows, Good as Gold, Picture This, No Laughing Matter, ( with Speed Vogel ) and We Bombed in New Haven ( a play ). Catch-22 was his first and is widely considered to be his best work. Heller does not recreate; he does not enjoy sports. He claims to do his best thinking coming into and going out of naps, so those are his main sources of relaxation. Heller says that he has achieved everything he ever wanted, because all he ever wanted was to write for a living and not have to do anything else. Mr. Heller is married to Shirley Held Heller, and they have two children, Lena and Isaac. In 1982 Joseph Heller was hospitalized with Guillian-Barr syndrome. His disease resulted in paralyzation.
