Let’s say you are driving behind a car, and this car seems to be going at a very low speed and braking frequently. Then out of nowhere, the car parks to the right and doesn’t signal, to let you know it was going to park. Because of straight luck, you were alert enough and quick enough to brake and move in time to avoid an accident. You honk the horn, but you see that the person who just parked isn’t even aware of what the driver just did, or you. As you drive pass the car, you see that the driver was on the phone. If out of every twelve-hundred drivers on the road right now, nine hundred of those drivers are talking on cell phones and paying more attention to their phone than the road; that puts a lot of Americans at risk, especially if there are about two hundred fifty-five million Americans that own and use a cell phone(cell phone). With so many people using their cell phones while driving, the increase of risk goes up as well, and for two main reasons. First, the driver must take his or her eyes off the road to dial a number and second, people can become so engaged in their conversations that their concentration level on the road goes down.
The use of hands free devices does not solve the problems as some people may think. Hand free devices may help a little in drivers keeping their attention on the road and their hands on and the wheel but, that is not the only problem ...
