China's Cities And Places


There are many different cities and places in China that you could
visit that can be very interesting. Some of these places are Beijing,
Shanghai, Tianjin, Hefei, Xiamen, and Lanzhou. These are only few of many
places to visit in China. Also the Confucian Temple in Qufu and Mount Tai
in the East are other places you should visit in China.
Beijing is one of the world's truly imposing cities. Covering
16,808 square kilometers in area, the capital of the People's Republic of
China approaches the 21st century with a 3,000 year history and about 11
million people. Shanghai is the "dragon head." A municipality with
provincial status, it is China's largest city in population (about 15

the capital of east China's Anhui Province. The city, divided into north
and south sectors by the Yangtze River, boasts 600,000 people and is a
developing industrial and education center. Xiamen is nicknamed the "Sea-
Floating Garden." The harbor city of southeast China's Fujian Province is
mainly comprised of an island off the East China Sea coast. Lovely scenery,
a subtropical marine climate, and Xiamen's liberalized trade zone annually
attract over three million tourists to the city. Situated near China's
geographic center, Lanzhou is the capital of Gansu Province. Much of
Gansu's land (13.7 million hectares) is devoted to livestock grazing and
grain farming. Yet, growing along the Yellow River in Lanzhou are honeydew
melons, peaches, and vegetables. Also, In Qufu, the Confucian Temple marks
the birthplace of the great philosopher who lived from 551-479 B.C. His
