Every up incoming deer season, you always hear about that one disease that is killing off all our deer. The year before last, it was blue tongue disease. The last two years, it has been chronic wasting disease. CWD is a disease in which kills slowly eroding holes in its victim’s brains. Chronic wasting disease is part of a family of diseases called transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. This family includes mad cow disease and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans. All of these diseases are believe to be caused by proteins that aren’t folded normally.

Chronic wasting disease has an impact on hunting. Studies show that in Colorado, the number of deer that is decreasing could just be from CWD alone. Studies shown in Wisconsin say that 11 percent of their sales for licenses went down after their discoveries of the outbreak of CWD in their state. The last thing any state needs is for another reason for some hunters to give up the sport.
