The Earthā€™s average temperature has been increasing since the Industrial Revolution. In 2016, records show that the Earth experienced its third consecutive hottest year. Prior to the Industrial Revolution in 1700 can be explained by natural causes such as changes in solar energy, volcanic eruption. However, recent climate changes cannot be explained by natural causes. scientists have observed cooling in the upper atmosphere and continuous warming in the lower atmosphere. The heating temperatures in the lower atmosphere are as a result of trapping of heat by greenhouse gasses. Some main activities that have caused climate change include:

Burning of Fossil Fuels The burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas to produce electricity and power other modern technology has brought the world to the age of fossil fuel dominance. The burning of fossil fuels release large amounts of CO2, causing CO2 concentration in the atmosphere to rise. By 2016, Co2 concentration in the atmosphere were 404 parts per million, the highest levels in 400,000 years adding up to about 7% since 2007. In the past, volcanic eruptions were known to emit large quantities of CO2. However, reports show that human activities emit 135 times as much CO2as volcanoes each year.
