I had come to St. Mary's College, to gain some exposure to life outside my nation, Hawaii. With parents who loved travel and meet new people I had been brought up to accept the challenges of life and keep an open mind. Yet, while I knew that diversity and globalization were a part of the future, I had a hard time practically implementing my parent's knowledge. I could accept the culture of Hawaii but when I heard some tit bit that took place some place around the world I behaved, or rather spoke in a very prudish manner. To me Hawaii was it. Beyond this culture all others were the 'other.'

taught me the importance of ethical education. In a rapidly globalizing world the student must realize that every profession must be guided by a code of ethics so as to survive in a changing environment. As a liberal arts student I have studied a national curriculum while accepting the convergence of faith and reason as a guide to education. Yet, while the college has made me a better person than I ever was before and equipped me to meet challenges with a confidence that I could never have faced without my college education I feel that I would now do better in Chaminade University, Honolulu.

Hawaii is the place of my birth. It is a place where I have friends and family. I do not think I will ever make the mistake of overestimating it but at least I have now learnt its value. For while at St. Mary's I learnt to value some aspects of Hawaii that I had formerly taken for granted.
