Louisiana Purchase

The Louisiana purchase was a major impact leading to a greater sense of independence and nationhood. Obtaining the Louisiana Purchase basically connected the nation by waterway which made it easier for things such as transportation to get done. By being connected to the rest of the nation through the Mississippi river goods and services could now be provided nationwide leading to a feeling of greater nationhood. Not to mention that this just about doubled what was America at that time, and the vision that we were growing led to a greater feeling of independence.

The War of 1812 had a major impact on the feelings of the nation. Of all the things that led to a greater sense of independence and nationhood this might be the one that had the most impact. Why? Well the reason is that we, America, fought against the “greatest and most powerful” nation on earth, and we didn’t lose. We didn’t win but hell, WE DIDN’T LOSE!! We fought to a stalemate with the English with absolutely no assistance from any other country. So this would obviously make the US feel great about themselves and the feeling would be that hey we did this, we can do anything.
