Minnesang is a definition for German medieval lyric and song writing. This poetry became an important stage in development of the medieval German literature and culture. One of the minnesang writers was Walther von der Vogelweide. He gave a powerful spur to the poetry of Minnesang by combining sublime fantasy and perceptible reality. Works of this author are important, as they allow us to take a look in the past. He glorifies terrestrial love in one of his poems “Under der linden”.

As I mentioned earlier, there is a folk approach in Walther’s poetry, so as the start of this poem “Unter der Linde auf der Heide”, as well as the nature description from the same line “Vor dem Wald in einem Tal”. The event described takes place in a meadow and it creates a feeling of freedom and imparts light to the poem.

The first stanza introduces us to a poem, the second and the third are action development, and the main purport is concluded in the latest stanza - the fourth. It comprises the idea of the poem. The theme of the poem is closely related to its idea. At first it creates an impression that it is the theme of love and sin. Even though the heroine mentions God and Saint Mary in her speech, she does not repent her sins; moreover she hopes no one finds out.
