The reformation was a period of time where rebels came about with the intension of changing the way people looked at the Church. If there are two people that were the best of the best at causing ruckus, the two people would be John Calvin and Martin Luther. The two are seen as the “leaders” of the reformation and have greatly impacted the catholic religion today. Due to them, we see different sects of Catholicism such as Lutheranism and Calvinism. Although the two had similar views on certain things, their views also contrasted. and State must be present, but the loyalty of the people should be evident to both parties. Luther also explained that the Church is subordinate to the State, which Calvin greatly disagreed with. Calvin believed that there should not be a separation of Church and State due to the set up of the Calvinist communities. The communities were isolated, and no state government was present. The religious leaders of the church also kept the communities in order, watching over the people. These communities were run and maintained by two church councils know as the Presbyteries and the Consistories. The Presbyteries consisted of elected groups of ministers and devout laymen who looked over the social and religious matters. The Consistory was made up of elder ministers that kept the order of the community.
