Comparison Of The Views Of Bonaventure, Beauvoir, And Marx In Their Works



Culture and society go hand and hand when it comes to defining a
person's identity. Man over the years have tried to develop what they think
to be the perfect society, but have come up short every time. Until recent
years society has been noticeably overridden with extreme sexism, racism,
and prejudice. In this essay I will attempt to explain how culture and
society affect people and their development with help of the readings by
Bonaventure, Simone de Beauvoir, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, and II
Vatican Council. I also plan to discuss the role of men and women in
society and how their roles have developed and changed over the years.

We tend to immerse ourselves into the problems of the world and forget
about God. Bonaventre says we cannot allow ourselves to shut out our Lord
out of our lives. He notes, "when one has fallen, he must lie where he is
unless another is at hand to raise him up". Bonaventure is saying that
when we do shut God out of our lives and is affected by it, we must let God
pick us up and show us the light. We cannot let ourselves be distracted by
the claws of society. We must remain focus in the reason we were put on
this earth. If we follow Bonaventure's theory we will be able to obtain
the light, and therein a personality shaped right, that is in the eyes of
God.
Simone de Beauvoir's "The Second Sex" questions the role of women
in a male dominated society. In this selection she compares and contrast
