The Mediterranean region is one of the most valuable and endangered regions of the world-- for forests, woods, scrub habitat, and freshwater ecosystems. The Mediterranean forests are one of the planet's centres of plant diversity, with an incredible 25,000 species, including animals such as leopards and bears. The climate of the region is generally one of wet winters and hot, dry summers. Special crops of the region are olives, grapes, orangess, tangerines, and cork (Jones, Toth, Charnizon, Grabarek, Larkins and Astengo, 2003).

However, outside the Russian region, several countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Poland, Iceland, and China overexploit the fisheries, since Russia has no control over this area. The exploitation has become so acute that the Russian government is discouraging fishing in its region.
