In "The Masque of the Red Death", Poe talks about how death is a never ending cycle and that no one can defeat it. the people are killed by a masked figure, otherwise known as the "Red Death". It also shows that the clock stops ticking when everyone dies; which shows its correlation to the life cycle. The anti-transcendentalists, like Poe, would agree with his views on death; the transcendentalists, like Henry David Thoreau show their views on life in their own pieces of literature.
