Coretta Scott King, a civil rights activist, once said, “When I went to the movies with other black children, we had to sit in the balcony while the white kids got to sit in the better seats below. We had to walk to school while the white children rode in school buses paid for by our parents’ taxes. Such messages, saying we were inferior, were a daily part of our lives.” Some of the things that Coretta would do to stop these kinds of things would be marching with her husband, speak publicly, traveled internationally, sang spirituals, lectured, and recited poetry. She then taught voice in the music department of Morris Brown College in 1962. She Entered in New England Conservatory of music; she earned another bachelor’s degree in 1954. In addition to her great teachings, her singing was powerful as well. She had a powerful impact on thousands of people when she sang spirituals at public events.
