the authors state (p. 12) that the recent "unprecedented growth" of the movement to blend together counselling and psychotherapy has forced counsellors and supervisors of counsellors to "adapt" their needs to the new realities. Out of this evolution of the marriage between counselling and psychotherapy, the authors explain, have come two distinct groups of counselling supervisors: one is the "approach-oriented supervisor" (using a practical method which the entire institution they are associated with also uses); the other approach is "eclectic" (using a more "broad range of approaches" in order to be able to "speak the language" of a diversity of supervisees).
And so the point of these last two paragraphs is that psychoanalysis was, and is, a sturdy part of the process of supervising, training and guiding the professional counsellor.
