"I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life." A line from a poem by legend Henry David Thoreau often quoted throughout dead poet’s society. Mr. Keating called upon his students to take more out of life than most, to such out the marrow, live to the fullest. In his short stay as an English teacher at Welton academy he compelled a group of caged animalistic adolescents to let out their emotions through a late night poetry circle where “women swooned: and “men became gods” according to former member Mr. Keating.

membership to a club called the dead poets society to attention, the rest is all the restless young souls needed to hear. Sneaking out, not just reading poetry but letting emotion reign supreme, the boys immediately decided the poets were to be brought back to Welton.

Although the idea of a group of high school students gathering to read poetry does seem a little farfetched the craving for freedom teens feel is not. The gatherings are and mean much more than something to do while away at school. It’s the natural feeling to spread your wings and live. These boys were confined to the school walls and any opinion the faculty had. Whether the club was more effective freeing the boys from their shirt and tie prison or empowering their literary mind there is no mistaking the Dead Poets Society allowed each and every one of them to be more proactive in their own lives.
