The death penalty should be abolished. There has been a huge political controversy over the years because many people condemned to death were found not to be guilty. Others who are on death row may be in that position due to poor witness testimony, poor defense, and overzealous prosecution. Many individuals condemned to death had diminished mental capacities, so they should be in mental institutions instead of awaiting their death. Some were incapable of making proper decisions.
