The novel Destroying Avalon by Kate McCaffrey follows, Avalon, a girl from the country town of Grace point who moves to a big city and attends a big school full of new people, at her new school she becomes the centre in a web of online bullying. During her struggles, she befriends Marshall who supports her in her time of need and always seems upbeat even when he is the target of the bullying. the base of the story, cyber bullying, the most prominent theme is demonstrated through the protagonist, Avalon a kind hearted, modest and friendly fourteen-year-old, whose main desire is to fit in and be liked, because of this she drops her learning standards and isn't her normal smart self. Avalon is cyber bullied and as a physical response from the stress and anxiety begins biting the skin around her nails. Through the technique of descriptive language McCaffrey can show the physical response Avalon has from the bullying. she becomes so scared from the torment she receives from the `bitches' she purposely misses the bus to avoid them.
