his anti-anxiety and ADD medications and he just finished a 32 day inpatient treatment for both addictions and mental disorders. I needed to do this for myself and for him. All of a sudden this wasn't just an assignment for class.

I had so many misconceptions of what this meeting would be about. I pictured a dark, dank room in some bad part of town with old people bitching and moaning about what a bad life they had and it was all because of their alcoholic family member. All the past info I had about AA or Al-Anon meetings was what I had seen in pictures, on TV or at the movies. I'm very sure it wasn't really going to be so bad, but, I think that is why it took me so long to attend. Thanks to this class and this assignment. I had to finally go. I did have some personal experience with addicts as I had attended group therapy meetings with other parents when I sent Alex to rehab in high school. helping families. You can't fix alcoholics. They have to want to fix themselves and get better for themselves. Al-anon helps you learn to fix yourself by following the 12 steps. I want to share this info with family and friends and take my family to a meeting. We have to let go and let god!! I want to learn all I can to help myself navigate this mental illness and addiction highway that is my life right now. This is my reality.
