For more than 2,500 years, Divine Proportion has been principle influence in art and architecture. In the 5th century B.C.E, Herodotus wrote that the Egyptians used Divine Proportion in the design of the Great Pyramid and that Phidias used Divine Proportion in the design and sculptures of the Parthenon (Hemenway 22). In fact, if its triangular pediment was still intact, the Parthenon’s dimensions could be fitted almost exactly into a Golden Rectangle (Huntley 63). Plato describes that the Divine Proportion plays a crucial role in the dimensions and formation of the five possible regular solids as the basis for harmonious structure of the universe (Hemenway 20).
