Drug abuse is prevalent in most countries. Every society, age and ethnic group, every social class and family has been touched by the destructive effects of drug addiction. Billions of dollars are spent regulating drug use, treating addicts and their families, and fighting drug related crime. Even though the drug abuse poses a great threat to society, there are ways we can fight the problem effectively.
The abuse of drugs causes many problems for families and community alike. Addicts are often sick, physically and mentally, and are unable to function as responsible members of a family or community. Addicts are sometimes in denial that they may be addicted to the drug at all. ...

drug abuse are the crimes committed by addicts to fuel addiction as they look for more desperate ways to support their habits, including robbery and murder. Increased police presence is also needed to fight smuggling and dealing illegal drugs and the criminals who profit from them.
As communities continue to struggle to find ways to deter drug abuse and to rehabilitate addicts, combating drug problems strains the police departments as well as the communities’ resources. Many communities are financially strapped, therefore adding more police protection, mainly through taxes, puts a strain on the on the community in general and society as a whole.
Despite the problems, these seemingly overwhelming issues of drug abuse and addiction can be fought. Education is the first line of attack.
