Artists would overlay multiple tracks (normally instrumentals of existing tracks) on reel-to-reel tape players, which were commonplace at the time, to create their own unique tracks. They'd hook the reel-to-reel tape player up to an amp, along with an MC, and then throw large parties.

In America, some would argue that EDM started in either Detroit or Chicago. The EDM scene is not like what it used to be. We were an underground group. We were kids that loved social gatherings and had like minds when it came down to really understanding a track or lyrics to a song. We felt that the "common folk" did not truly understand the intentions to why the producer "did this" in his track or why he "did that."
