The largest newspaper, El Universo, is published in Guayaquil. The daily sale of this newspaper is 84,000 copies. Ecuador has 300 radio stations and 10 television stations, which are privately owned. The government operates the telephones. There are about three telephones every 200 people.

In the 1400's, the Inca Empire took over Ecuador. Many different tribes lived in Ecuador, and in less than 50 years, the Inca government united all the tribes.
