The average resting heart rate for an adult human is 60-80 Beats per minute, however there are multiple factors that may have an affect on it. The heart beat has semi intrinsic control of itself meaning the electrical impulses that stimulate the heart muscles to contract are generated inside the heart at patches of nodal tissue (SA/AV nodes). The heart can also be influenced externally by the medulla oblongata via the parasympathetic or the sympathetic nervous system.
