Within the sport and exercise psychology (SEP) field, as with most fields, Black people continue to be underrepresented. As a result, there tends to be a lack of research on their experiences. their field. The researchers collected demographic information of participants who were selected based on their response to an email request for participation. They administered an online survey that consisted of five questions targeting the participants' experiences. Using the critical race theory approach, the researchers coded participants' responses according to seven themes, namely: microassault, microinsult, microinvalidation, pressure to prove competency or skill, healthy paranoia and sanity checks, reforming, feeling like you do not belong and a need for more Black professional mentors. Carter and Davila found that all participants reported that they experienced at least two of the themes.
