Euphenism

Euphemism is the replacement of a term that has a negative associate by a neutral or positive term. It is also word or phrase that stands in for another word or phrase, chosen to mask or soften the true meaning of what is being expressed basically making something sound better. Some euphemisms are humorous and can be easy to see through but other times they obscure the truth and create a false image of the world. Some people use euphemisms to get others to see something their point of view.

Unconscious euphemisms, which are often now used as part of are language are not rightfully looked upon as euphemisms, or not to cover up any fears or anxieties but used as part of our communication among others.
A good example of a euphemism would be the use of the phrase "mobile community" instead of trailer park, or "assisted living facility" for a retirement home. Politically correct language is often based on euphemisms in which terms such as crippled, crazy, or retarded and replaced with more positive terms such as physically challenged and mentally ill. Another example of using euphemisms is when someone dies, using the term “passed away” masks our culture’s discomfort with the topic of death.
