Incidence:

Statistics indicate that Bell's Palsy affects approximately 2 out of 10,000 people, however, the actual incidence is likely to be much higher (around 1 out of 500 to 1,000). The disorder will effect 40,000 men and women a year, usually between the ages of 20 and 35. Of those diagnosed, twenty percent will have reoccurrence of the disease. It can strike almost anyone at any age; however, it disproportionally attacks pregnant women and people who have diabetes, influenza, a cold, or some other upper respiratory ailment. It also seems to have a higher incidence in regions where the climate is cold.
Researchers in Japan recently identified the common cold sore virus, herpes simplex, as the likely cause of most causes of Bell's Palsy. This finding is still in the proving stage and there is no solid evidence to support it ...
