What is a volunteer? A volunteer as someone who gives their time and talents for unselfish reasons and for no monetary gain. Whether it is gaining knowledge and skills to help them find a job or do their current job better, making new friends and connections, giving back to their community or an organization they might have received some help from before, or any number of other reasons, volunteers will always receive some reward for their efforts.

Volunteer fire fighters and emergency medical technicians are frequently exposed to dangerous situations but are not deterred from providing their special skills when needed. These individuals understand that without their services many people will be injured or possibly killed. Sometimes these volunteers receive the professional training required for conducting their job and in return agree to donate their time for repayment of that training received.
Without the service of volunteers many organizations and community service projects will not succeed.
