Mayor Mitch Landrieu vs the statue of Robert E. Lee

(Conversation takes place in warehouse, location undisclosed)

Mayor Landrieu: Well Lee, I guess you're out.

Statue of Lee: Yes, I can tell. View in here is not nearly as good as from the top of the pedestal. Why'd you do it? Nobody asked me how the hell I felt about all this nonsense.

Landrieu: It wasn't up to you, Lee. That decision was made by the city council and the people of New Orleans. Besides, I think we all know your standing on this.

Lee: Yeah, and it ain't on my pedestal.

Landrieu: Good one.

Landrieu: Your "cause" was slavery, Lee. All this time, and you still can't see that you and the rest of your confederacy were on the wrong side of humanity (Landrieu).

Lee: What a load of bull. Yeah, yeah, we had slaves. A lot of us liked that. But you think our cause was slavery? I'll tell you something, Mr. Mayor. America had slavery, not just us Southerners. Lincoln, that man so many of you pile your praises on, offered to make slavery permanent in our states if we came on back to the Union (Sterling). You know what happened?

Landrieu: You didn't take it.

Lee: We didn't take it.

Landrieu: Whatever your cause was, Lee, you fought against ...
